The conclusions of the report consider how the novel risk stratification approach might be applied more generally across Water Corporation’s corporate risks, could improve consideration of risk appetite by the Board, might prove a useful lens for risk manager in the organisation and be taken forward in next steps to improve risk reporting to the Board.

Research statement
Research background: This research project commissioned by Water Corporation, Western Australian (WA) had the goal of improving the organisation’s risk management framework.
Research contribution: The project was led by the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Employing a flexible research design, the research team considered approaches to risk prioritisation and stratification from outside the realms of traditional risk management in the water industry. With no obvious candid methods to transplant, the ISF and Water Corporation project team then developed a novel approach to risk stratification that would be meaningful across Water Corporation’s business, and that would enhance existing risk management processes.
Research significance: The conclusions of the report consider how the novel risk stratification approach might be applied more generally across Water Corporation’s corporate risks, could improve consideration of risk appetite by the Board, might prove a useful lens for risk manager in the organisation and be taken forward in next steps to improve risk reporting to the Board.
